...I know they think I nag on a bit about sunscreens, but it is only because I have read such disturbing encounters from people that have terminal cancers due to the exposure to the sun. It appalls me to see people today walk around with peeling and blistering sun burn, because they didn’t think it important to apply sunscreen. Unfortunately too many people still believe they ‘have to go red to go brown’.

I recently had a mole removed from my hand as the doctor said ‘I don’t like the look of that’. I noticed it funnily enough on my holiday in Marbella.

I went to see the local pharmacist on the high street who unfortunately couldn’t speak much English, but I understood enough for him to say, I should go to my doctors when I arrived home.

Being of olive complexion it came as a shock when I was whisked down to the mole clinic. I remember as a child not thinking about sunscreens at all, and not being encouraged by adults to cover up.

I would have been definitely ridiculed if I had taken anything into school. I can recall burning on several occasions. The worst was at the school sports day, it was a mini heatwave and I caught on my neck and chest. It was agony that evening and for many days to follow. This is why I encourage my daughters not to make the same mistakes.
