As the staff ratio there is so much higher, it meant that whichever of the three restaurants we went to, the waiters and head of the restaurant recognised Leo, made him the dishes he could have and came up with new things that were suitable. The head of the restaurant double checked every dish that was made for Leo to ensure it was compliant! There were two incidences which slipped through - first a burger had mayonnaise but we spotted it and secondly when they added a biscuit to his sorbet.
One morning my other son was eating pancakes for breakfast and Leo was crying and the waiter asked what was upsetting him. We explained that at home we make him allergy free pancakes and he was upset he was having one like his brother. They went away and within 5 minutes had pancakes for Leo. This was utterly amazing. They also made sure Leo had at least three different types of bread for Leo and understood about keeping food away from Leo's so no allergens are transferred.
They also went out to find rice milk for him as he did not like the soya milk they have every day. All meals are a la carte so no chance of serving spoons being used in different dishes and mixed up. Also they had about 10-15 types of sorbets (only fruit, sugar and water) so Leo never felt left out when it came to desserts and having fruit which I find is the most difficult part of the meal to accommodate someone with allergies.
Even when we left the hotel they made a packed lunch and enough food for Leo to cover dinner and breakfast on the flight back so he would not have to risk airline food.
The Residence is not cheap however I find with having an allergic child that the peace of mind we had in being able to (nearly) relax when it came to mealtimes due to them being able to look after Leo's food needs, was priceless!
